Listed Building
The Dairy
Pylewell Park, New Forest
The Dairy at Pylewell Park is a historic outbuilding, listed and remarkably advanced for its day. Built to produce fine cheeses, it holds a specialist cooling funnel, a curved tiled ceiling, and marble shelving and floors — details that give the small building an unusual richness.
We were instructed to repair the tired roof structure. It was a complicated refurbishment: the Dairy is an octagonal building, and the roof carries an interesting lead detail and a parapet funnel. We repaired the structure, replicated the fascia mouldings, carried out detailed verge pointing, and replaced what was needed as sympathetically as possible to satisfy the conservation officer.
It is exactly the kind of listed building work we take on — traditional building skills, a conservation-led approach, and one named point of contact throughout. The finished work sits honestly alongside the original fabric, so the character of the building is preserved.
